Finally, a good review of this album. It seems like everyone is just jumping to crap on this album for some reason. I think the music on this album is really good, but I can't agree with the vocals. They just seem really weak to me, and they only detract from the songs. The best songs here don't have vocals, "Mr. Bush..." in particular.

I really like this album, too, but I'm the complete opposite: the best tracks by far are the vocal-oriented ones: "It's For You," "One Life to Leave," and "How Long." Some of the instrumentals, esp. on the second half, veer toward sounding rote.

I don't mind the vocal tracks at all, but I just wished the instrumentals were of a quality to match "The L-Train is a Swell Train" from S.T.R.E.E.T. D.A.D. Unfortunately, I don't think they'll ever top that high, especially seeing as "L Train" is one of the best "epic" pieces in the history of recorded music. In an attempt to sidestep that great task, this new pop direction was the most practical choice they could have made with this album. "Mr Bush" is just boring, which is something Out Hud should never have to be.

After the reactions this album has been getting I was expecting a cheap, flaccid, tacky house lp. With guitars. It doesn't have 'The L-Train...' or 'Dad, There's A Little Thing...', but it does have the same entrancing qualities of the D.A.D. album in a more purified form. More direct. More like amphetamines than quaaludes. As much as I wanted LUNSOIA to push the psychedelic boundaries further back, I can appreciate the tightening up of the structure - it creates a denser tension - and the darker the better as far as I am concerned. Has anyone seen this band live? They're second on my list of must-sees, after 65 Days Of Static.

...and what about those subtle bits of guitars? OH THOSE little clean guitar licks that really get the pacing going on those hot tracks...i didn't see a death of anything around here if you asked me.
