I actually did download Psychocandy, like 4 days ago. It's pretty sweet.

. . . and what, exactly, is the point of this feature?

And what, exactly, is the point of a troll?

I don't understand the objection to a feature like this. Who doesn't like an insight into someone else's life, someone else's proclivities and tastes? We're all voyeurs, some of us are just afraid to say so. BTW, how old is this 'week in the life' of Hutlock? The World Series ended like two weeks ago. Maybe Stylus wasn't expecting a sweep...

ZutonPhaser- i think they are trying to 'humanize' the robots that really write all these reviews. maybe it'd be more 'point' orientied if every track was graded. or ranked 0.0 - 10.0. i never understood why the albums are graded, and the US/UK singles are on a point system. no more citing bands for being inconsistent until this oversight is rectified.

 yr being "ironical," right J_R_K?

Todd, just try not to infect your "best girlfriend ever" because that is never appreciated. Believe me. Whether it's a flu virus or the clap, you keep that shit to yourself. Just saying. Hope you get feeling better though, because if you don't listen to music while you're sick, and you're sick for a week.... this is going to be a short column mostly about midday naps. Or maybe death. Does he die at the end? Gosh, I hate suspense.

She's feeling good and not infected, I swear. And I'm better too, thanks.

dubidet - i truly believe there is a perfect way to rank and maybe even review records. no, obviously there isn't, and maybe the 'point' of this feature is providing insight into how a critic's daily life affects the way they write about music.

Thanks for all the lovely references! Thanks also for sharing how uncool I am with my minivan (dripping sarcasm here)....and for the record, the album was Figure 8.

I hope someday ELO week is over. Steely Dan week please!

Figure 8's his best work. And Hut feels the same way 'bout The The as I.

Wow Todd, who don't you know? Dating Bevin Blechdom only to have Morgan Geist steal her, knowing Jason Molina from college....did you ever punch out an indie-rock guy in a bar or date any members of The Donnas? I'm being slightly sarcastic, but I just find it interesting.
Posted 11/11/2005 - 03:29:44 PM by hutlock:
Morgan didn't steal her -- I broke up with her and then they started dating. Oberlin College has a very long list of indie and electronica folks on it's pedigree, and I lived there for a decade (4 years of school, 6 years after working), so I met a whole lot of them. It ain't such a big place, but you'd likely be surprised how many semi-famous music folks I share alumni status with. And I knew Jason well before college -- we both grew up in Lorain, Ohio. Never met any Donnas though. Sorry to sound like a namedropper, but it was the story of my week.
