Nice mix of it....I would have "Say You Miss Me" or "What's The World Got In Store" in place of "Blasting Fonda" though. It would have been a "calm before the storm" that is "Misunderstood."

'Sunken Treasure' is one of my favorite Wilco songs. I like it because it's a bit disillusioned and pines for lost youth -- to me, the line 'there is not sunken treasure' means that all we longed for as kids is bullshit: no matter how hard we try, we'll never find a sunken treasure because it's not there. But then, in the penultimate verse, the couplet 'for all the leaves will burn / in autumn fires and then return' speaks of redepmtion and rejuvenation, and reminds us (or at least me) it may not all be bullshit after all. And the line 'music is my savior' kills me every time.

"Hotel Arizona" might be my favorite song on the album aside from "The Lonely 1."

Anthony -- what do you like about "Hotel Arizona"? I just find it totally unremarkable. Not bad, but just not distinctive - it sounds like filler. Even now, I am trying to hum the melody in my head and it just isn't coming to me -- and I played it about 4 hours ago in the car on my way in to the office! Seriously, am I missing something?

Agreeed about "Hotel Arizona"'s greatness--I'd have made room for "Red Eyed and Blue," as well. Still, though as you say, I love the album as it is, this would make a fantastic single LP.

As huge Wilco fan... correction; a huge Wilco purist... I like the mix here. Definately cut out some of the weaker tracks. Being There was a spotty double album to begin with anyway.

Almost forgot. "Blasting Fonda" is excellent.

"Hotel Arizona" is a great track and it's a pre-cursor to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot or A Ghost Is Born -- long guitar solos/feedback, oblique lyrics.

C'mon, Todd... "That's just something I'll have to get used to / Doot doot doot doot doot" - you really can't remember "Hotel Arizona? I'd keep it and "Red Eyed And Blue", probably for "Kingpin" and "Forget The Flowers" respectively, but other than that damn good version. I like the idea of closing with "Misunderstood". I also note with interest this is the third Wilco PG on the site - more than any other band, I think.
