Music Reviewer
an Mathers (“may-thers,” thanks) was born in Guelph, Ontario and after growing up elsewhere returned there for school. He got his BA in Philosophy in June 2005 and is now trying to polish off his Master’s degree in the same department working on Roman Ingarden’s ontology of the musical work of art. Nobody else has heard of him either. He is unemployed and trying to figure out how to prolong this for as long as possible. He lives with his twin brother and is always considering getting a cat. He has pretty much given up trying to control the sprawl of music in his apartment (his piles have colonized the kitchen table), but is fighting the books. He does believe that aesthetics, as opposed to morals and math, is completely subjective. He will not knife fight you over it, but he will get pretty heated. He probably doesn’t like your canon, but even if he does he opposes the notion that it could be universally relevant. He is writing this in the third-person, not to gain some much-needed objectivity like Phil Dick or young Stencil, but because that seems to be the convention. His favorite philosopher is Spinoza, but he still reads comic books and watches too much TV. He is the longest serving (and often only) Canadian writer at Stylus, and according to at least one of our commenters, also a lobster. All Time Top 10
