When you are a shtick joke band, end it after absolutely no more than three albums and grow up and do real art or get a job at the local college.

Just another reason to not follow reviewers. This is a meaner but just as fun Donnas album. I give it an A!

OK, the Donnas are more than a shtick band. Or at least they have been in the past, on albums like Get Skintight and Turn 21 (their best so far), and the unjustly criticized Gold Medal. On Bitchin', they are too serious, trying too hard. If this were the first Donnas album I had heard, I would dismiss them as unoriginal, boring and mechanical. Brett Anderson's declamatory vocals do not work with the retro heavy arena rock-pop (cf. Def Leppard) stylings on Bitchin'. The overall sound is also thinner and more digital than that on Turn 21 or Gold Medal, and similar to the weak, overly slick effort that was Spend The Night, the Donnas' major-label debut. Impressive on Bitchin', as always, are the band's instrumental chops, and the album is worth listening to just for Allison Robertson's guitar work -- she's among the very best in the axe-slinging biz today. Overall, a 5 out of 10. I don't think the Donnas have yet found their true voice.

Completely classless and unprofessional. It's one thing to critic a band, album, and even album art, but you crossed the line saying the album cover designer seems "as dumb as everyone says". I'd LOVE to see you say it to her face. That comment pretty much proves why people should immediately tune out everything you have to say. The Donnas are not a shtick band, they are a rock n roll band. That you fail completely to realize this is why you write reviews for Stylus, and not a more prestigious company, and why you most likely will continue to do so for quite some time. But maybe sum1's just sore that The Donnas turned their back on Atlantic, as well they should have. Atlantic wanted to turn them into a joke pop band. But you seem to be praising Atlantic in the second paragraph, which may explain your bitterness towards The Donnas. Bitchin' is amazing, but even if you didn't think so, you could at least TRY to pretend to be civil about saying so. So while The Donnas tour the world, and hit #89 already in Billboard's Top 200, you can just sit here and hate them all you want.

I just listened to the bonus download track "Randi" for the first time. Ahhh, THERE's the Donnas' sound! Brett's right in her element vocally, the sound is a touch raw, the lyrics are spot-on. Woo-hoo!

Hey, ace--reread the paragraph about the cover art. What "is dumber than everyone says" in Weber's review is THE EIGHTIES, not the person who designed the cover. (Insert wry comment about who's dumb now here, if you'd like)
