This review doesn't even make any sense. I highly recommend New Wave.

Agreed, the most this piece amounts to is a long complaint about the subject matter. While I dont care much for his new lyrical style (and it is new- go back to Eternal Cowboy and he's not using any of these $5 words) its hardly the downfall of the record. The arrangements on Borne on the FM Waves and Thrash Unreal are about as interesting as youre gonna find from a punk band. The Ocean deserves more credit for the way it is produced and carried out, the way tension is created and tightened and tightened and exploded again and again, than it does for its fairly noncontroversial mention of gender confusion. And to miss the compelling point of Americans Abroad - the parallel between corporations selling American culture overseas and the band on a European tour selling their reaction to American culture, well, it sounds almost as though the reviewer wanted to take as little from this record as possible after being exposed to the hype.
