Good review Alf. Waited anxiously for quite a while for this beast to hit shops and I must say, as a fan, I can't help but feel a bit short-changed here. SAJ will go down as one of my favourites for many reasons, but mainly because each song (bar the singles) had interesting twists and turns that encouraged repeat listens. Not to mention the melancholic angst and sheer psychedelia of cuts like "Sweetest Goodbye" and "Shiver." This time around, we unfortunately have to contend with rubbish like "Wake Up Call" and "Nothing Lasts Forever." and a deliberate "retro" aesthetic, wtf?. Back in their day it used to be about expressing heartbreak and now it is seemingly about marketing. "Kiwi," "WGHWY," "Can't Stop," and Back at Your Door" are all excellent but the rest of the tunes are pretty middle of the range. My mates at the M5 board are lapping it up though, meaning this will probably end up selling ten million.

contending with rubbish on a maroon 5 album is about as unexpected as contending with piss in a toilet
