Pearl Jam's Ten is so named for the jersey number of band's favorite basketball player, Mookie Blaylock. Fine review regardless.

Are you making any of this up, Nick? Just curious.

I think Mookie Blaylock was actually the original name of PJ .. crazy

Most interesting review of this record I've seen yet. Most folks never even approach the idea that Deerhoof songs might actually mean something to the band, they stick almost exclusively to the realtionship between the cartoonishness and the rock, or perhaps, the ratio of difficult and abrassive to poppy and fun. Across the board I am saying. Surprising considering the longevity of the band and the obvious intelligence of the players involved. It would seem that there must be multiple layers at work beyond the craftmanship, no? Gonna have to listen more to make my own judgment, but I applaud Nick for bringing up an almost completely ignored part of the band. Can't think of any reason that Mookie Blaylock would be any crazier of a name than Pearl Jam, by the way.
