I don't really agree with this review. While the album might not have any single songs as good as some of the more memorable Mountain Goats tracks like "Going to Georgia", it's a solid listen from start to finish. There are plenty of great lyrics, and I think the arrangements work quite well for the most part.

While I tend to agree with Mike on the muted force of Get Lonely (one of my biggest complainsts against it) I am more impressed with his spot on references and interpretations of earlier Mountain Goats work. Nice job, sir.

yeah, i haven't heard the album yet, but great review; it's always thrilling to hear passionate interpretations of Darnielle's lyrics.

I love "Get Lonely". And I love the way John Darnielle delivers his stories. And I love the way Erik Friedlander is playing his cello here. I will play it in my late night show, among the other great "autumnal" song albums from Dylan, Lambchop, M. Ward, and Pajo. I even think that it will belong to my three favourite albums by the Mountain Goats.
