Liked the album, liked the review, except... I liked "Meet Me In The City". And even if you don't, surely it's not worse than "Extra Special Guy", probably the worst thing Gomez have ever done?

Hurrah for Gomez, hurrah for this more-than-fair review, and hurrah for Liquid Skin, one of the (if not THE) finest major-label release of the 90s.

Hmm. Quite possibly the most perfect approximation of my thoughts regarding the two singers and what happens when 'the other guy' used to come on. I'll try this album now...

Hmm. Oddly enough, the first time I heard Gomez I hated Ottewell's voice and preferred "the other guy"s.

 That is odd!

Don't think it's THAT odd. It was Ottewell's grizzly stylings that put a lot of people off Gomez ca. Bring It On, and Ball's more moderate tones worked as entryism. For what it's worth, I found Split The Difference to be rather dull, nowhere near as good as the vastly underrated In Our Gun, but this review is convincing enough to make me want to listen again. Extra Special Guy is horrid, though, no salvaging that.

Ah, excellent - someone else who likes "In Our Gun". Edwardo is, I think, entirely right about my reaction to Ottewell's voice, as now that I'm used to them I quite like it.

Good review. Couldn't agree more. Just to note....Tom Gray is actually the lead vocalist on Sweet Virginia. He handles lead vocals on Silence and Catch Me Up as well. He's the goofy bespectacled member of Gomez.

Oh yeah, and the best member of the band (Tom Gray) also sings 'We Don't Know Where We're Going'. I know, It's hard to tell, but he is. And I don't think Ben is that great. I mean, he's okay. And NOTHING'S WRONG FOR 4th SINGLE!
