Actually, the 5-note melody from Close Encounters appears in the Bond film Dr. No: it's the passcode for a security door.

Ha! The buggers - though I'm sure they'd pull a Robert Hughes and blame the collective unconscious...

I'm way late on this article, but hey whatever. The scene from Bogus where the robots are going to kill Bill & Ted and the camera pulls out to reveal the rock face they are about to get thrown off. That very second (as I remember it anyway) "Go To Hell" from Megadeth cuts in with it's heavily accented, dies-irae styled descending guitar pattern that of course is the precursor for them actually - going to hell. Loved it.

Oh whoops I almost forgot. Magic Flute is so not stadium rock. It's "Get Born" or "Metallica", literally rocked in stadiums but is not stadium rock. Mozart rocked on Piano Concerto 20 (especially the 3rd movement) and pretty close is 24. Stick with the minor stuff. Of course the 40th symphony rocks, but unfortunately that was destroyed forever in the '70s.
