| ||hey patrick, just wanted to compliment you.
i think this is the best review i've read so far about this film. if i could write a review, this would be it.
the only thing i'd change is the rating, from B+ to A. maybe an A seems too much, but ever since i saw this movie, i cant stop thinking about it.
i saw the darjeeling limited almost one month ago when it premiered in rio's cinema festival. hotel chevalier was shown before the main feature, and i simply loved it.
the initial sequence of darjeeling also took my breath away. but after a little while i begin to worry, and was afraid that as in the life aquatic, the story would lack cohesion,
and the characters would drift without really bonding.
but i was wrong, at a certain point and i cant say exactly where and why, but you just get it, you get the 3 whitmans. and every single action or dialogue that could have seemed pointless and forced before, suddenly makes sense.
and you feel like you can relate to these 3 boys.
and you want to know more about them. i think the best line in the movie is anjelica houston's "maybe we can express ourselves best if we say it without words".
i think this line is, in my opinion, some sort of summarisation of what wes's films are all about, i think that this line explains a lot of what he is trying to show/share with his movies. and it is such a beautiful lin life is so full of subtleties and things and feelings that we cant understand, that we cant put into words, cos they are too big and complex for that.|
