I hate to say this sort of thing about music, but I don't get it. I don't get the hype and the reviews, I don't get the salivating press. All the singles I've heard (Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, Oxford Comma, and one other, the name of which escapes me now) have been so interminably boring to me. Everyone says "Graceland Paul Simon" but the singles off that album were so much more jumpy and fun than what I've heard from Vampire Weekend. It sounds like the perfect music for 64 year old white guys to hang out next to the pool to.

well, i don't think VW are a band to 'get,' really. i definitely think that if you don't like them on first listen you're not going to come to like them through intellectual understanding, y'know? i know that i'm the only one really repping for them on stylus, too. i find them charming. soft, yeah, but whatever. i'm not even a paul simon fan, really, so i can't pass judgment there. i think the old-dudes-by-the-pool comment might be a bit of an overstatement, but sure, they're not exactly abrasive. dunno. glad you read through & gave them a chance though.

I really dig this band. The 10-song blue CD-R thing they have out shows a greater indie rock leaning. Sounds like a more organic Walkmen. "Wolcott" is the song on their myspace that I think best shows that. I was kind of curious why Stylus didn't just review that since I've been rocking that for a few weeks, so I know it's been out awhile. Cool interview, cool dudes.
