There is quite a bit that I would like to say to this. Very well written (and please ignore the inevitable haters who will smirk at this kind of speculation). I would simply say that some of the distinctions you set up need not be distinctions: there is no transgression between the human and "the boundaries of the divine" as you put it. From our inadequite perspective (which, I guess, is all we ultimately have) it is a striving...from the perspective of quantum, substance, God, etc. it IS unified. I've always suspected that Stevie was able to tap into the sub species eternitatus, you've gone a long way to analyze it and (perhaps) prove it.

Can I get an explicit shoutout to my man Baruch here? Both he and Mallory (and jmp123 as well) definitely know all about the understanding love of God. I gotta go re-re-re-re-re-read the Ethics now.

Well, I shout out to Baruch everyday just in my very existence...Mallory's article made me think about the opening track on SITKOL as well: why is love in need of love? It only makes sense if there are two different modes in which love finds itself: the intersubjective love (you know, the "I Just Called to Say I Love You" kind) and the intellectual love of God (which helps us appreciate the other kind of love insofar as through one we begin to understand the cause of the other--however inadequite our knowledge of the intellectual love of God may be). Stevie also helped me understand this rather odd aphorism from Nietzsche's "Beyond Good and Evil" (a man who gave many, many shouts out to Baruch in his work (sadly overlooked)): "Whatever is done from love always occurs beyond good and evil".

This piece so strongly reminded me of FreeDarko that I had to check the byline to see that it wasn't Shoals.

I don't know what a shoals is but I hated Donnie Darko.
