didn't pitchfork do this a month ago?
Posted 07/17/2006 - 09:18:02 AM by mirakle:
yeah, I think they might have...I hope Frontier Psychiatrist makes the list.
Posted 07/17/2006 - 10:27:24 AM by cknudsen:
maybe they should aknowledge that they also had a top 100 list of music videos of all time (with using YouTube clips) and do oen like "The other 100 great music videos" instead of doing repeats. I liked the short responses that Pitchfork had written and the one about "nothing compares 2 u" made me watch the music video 5 times in a roll. I never sat through it until reading that.
Posted 07/17/2006 - 10:28:53 AM by TheRookie:
Pitchfork's was "100 awesome music videos" and never declared theirs to be the best of all time (they even didn't allow anything on the director series dvds which would populate half of a best of list.) This still seems dubious to me though.
Posted 07/17/2006 - 11:14:35 AM by MEKsLP:
I would imagine that its a coincidence but even if its not could we please just avoid the Pitchfork comparisons and pay attention to the content within the article? Is anyone going to bitch the next time Pitchfork does a "100 Greatest Albums of the ___" article? They didn't invent the concept of controversy and nostalgia though categorization of entertainment mediums so lets not treat them as such. please for the sake of there being 60 comments comparing this to Pitchfork by weeks end.

Well said MEKsLP. Who cares if pitchfork did it a month ago, i'm pretty sure we're all aware of that. I already see some different videos in here. That bright eyes video is surprisingly awesome.

Excellent call on the Bright Eyes video. I never paid the song much attention when I heard it on the album, but this video made me well up the first time I saw it. Perfect match of music and visuals. Plus, it's directed by Hedwig! What's not to love?

Mmmm. That was Tilda Swinton in the Orbital video for The Box. In an oldschool aviators helmet, not a shower cap, I believe.

Junior Senior are from Denmark, not The Netherlands.
Posted 07/17/2006 - 04:09:49 PM by jenglisbe:
Um, why hasn't even one female video made the list? No TLC, Janet, Madonna, Mariah, Bjork, etc. yet?

for your daily fix of cool music videos:

I'd better see Death in Vegas' "Dirt" and Laibach's "Life is Life" somewhere along the line. :)
Posted 07/17/2006 - 06:50:52 PM by idunnowhy:
that Journey video better make the top 10.
Posted 07/17/2006 - 07:41:36 PM by cknudsen:
I would think 100 of the most awesome videos would be the best videos of all time. Maybe Stylus should have done the top 100 music videos you have never seen or something like that.
Posted 07/17/2006 - 07:43:02 PM by mirakle:
given the number of times it's mentioned on this site, how high do people think "Bittersweet Symphony" is going to be?
Posted 07/17/2006 - 10:30:25 PM by TheRookie:
100 awesome videos doesn't necessarily have to be "the best", just stuff you find fun which is why i kind of liked that article better. REGARDLESS the videos so far have been quite good outside of a few odd additions. No Diggity isn't a bad video per se, but I'm pretty sure given enough time I can think fo 10 better Hype Williams videos and I hope there aren't 10 more Hype Willaims videos on this list. I like the Bright Eyes video better when Cake did it. If Hungry like the Wolf is THIS low, Girls on Film better be MUCH higher. I like the inclusion of The Distance and Ocean Breathes Salty, good videos that never get enough mention. I really do hope some lesser known but equally good videos make the list, like Pharcyde's Drop and DJ Format's We Know Something.

"Let Forever Be" looks pretty good on youtube! On DVD the digital video artifacts make it look like shit.

agree with Frontier Psychiatrist. Think Ms Jackson was a better vid than Hey Ya. Rabbit in the Headlights HAS to be in there. I think E-Talking is pretty good. I'd love it if Burn the witch and Ich will were there, but doubt they'll make it.

Frontier Psychiatrist er... sucks balls. It's like, let's just be AS LITERAL AS POSSIBLE about representing all these samples. Is that the novelty? Is that what's supposed to be so entertaining about it? mmmkay.

80-61 were painful to read. Kudos for Imitation of Life, though. You guys should have made the top 50 R.e.m. videos of all time.

My only problem here is that the page takes too long to load, and then when you click a video its all choppy. That may just be on my end, but it's irritating nonetheless.

No matter how many times i see that aphex twin video, it still scares the shit out of me. Awesome Daft Punk video as well!
Posted 07/18/2006 - 03:01:36 PM by jenglisbe:
bassman - If you let a video load fully before playing it, it won't be choppy. To do that, hit PLAY on a video and then hit PAUSE. You will see the bar going across as it loads. Anyway, why does it matter if Pitchfork already did a list like this? This isn't Pitchfirk. Most sources have done a Videos list, so why can't Stylus do one? I'm hoping for... Fiona Apple - "Criminal" Mariah Carey - "The Roof" Radiohead - "Just" TLC - "Red Light Special"

I better see these in the top 10: "Once in a Lifetime" "O Superman" "Boys Keep Swinging"
Posted 07/19/2006 - 07:39:16 AM by meatbreak: the emotional heartwrenching and soul searching is all in 60-41. Wonder where we're going next? And since you seem to like school videos so much, might we even see Marilyn Manson's Fight Song somewhere.
Posted 07/19/2006 - 07:47:50 AM by TheRookie:
The top 10 can only be extremely elating or dismaly dissapointing, so much "typical top 10" material has already passed on this list.
Posted 07/19/2006 - 11:06:52 AM by mirakle:
Agreed for Once in a Lifetime. The White Stripes video really opens a lot of possibilities, you know. Lite Brite, tinkertoys, stolen footage from Mario games...Of course it would all look like it was ripping off the White Stripes but it would be a great nostalgia trip move anyhow.
Posted 07/19/2006 - 11:22:39 AM by bassman08:
jenglisbe: I did that already before I posted, many times for many videos. They were all choppy.
Posted 07/19/2006 - 11:55:07 AM by smnsmn:
Obvious I know, but for me it's gotta be Aphex Twin's Windowlicker (the full 10+ minutes of course). Cunningham's latest (for The Horrors):;=chris%20cunningham is pretty awesome too. Somebody mention Alien? This:;=laurent%20garnier is funny as fuck. Only saw it for the first time recently but still laughing. Great track too.

Man, that "True Faith" video is really creepy.
Posted 07/20/2006 - 01:39:39 PM by cables:
is anyone else having trouble watching these? Why couldn't stylus break it up into 3 or 4 different pages instead of cramming 100 music video's on 1. My computer is moving so slow i can't even watch them.
Posted 07/20/2006 - 03:38:12 PM by Monnich:
How about some pages, people? Think of the children.
Posted 07/20/2006 - 05:24:06 PM by saltlick:
One more vote for page breaks. Didn't anyone think this through?
Posted 07/20/2006 - 09:20:25 PM by simplethinks:
I would think this video should make the top 5 (at least). Coldcut - Timber (If you 've never seen it I urge to watch it at;=coldcut Other than that a very wide and nice selection.
