I'm gonna take the bastards way out on this one. -Art Brut- Dom, Alex, Joe you don't get it.

I think they get it all too well - it's like one of those dreadful blog posts which suddenly starts talking about shagging. EXCEPT ON RECORD!! I gave it a generous 4 cos I quite like his voice.

so are art brut becoming a real actual "love or hate" band? i do hope so, i think they are TEH GREBT, although they are the indiest band of the last ten years (like that's some sort of bad thing)...

yeah i was being a tool. i just luv em too much to watch em get slagged off!!

I worry for Dom sometimes. So much anger. As for Art Brut, they are great! Completely harmless and fun in the riotious tradition of British fun-ness. They are also an absolutely scorching live act. So yah boo sucks to everybody who is too high and mighty to relax a little.

"completely harmless and fun in the riotous tradition of British fun-ness" is another reason why I hate Art Brut, no doubt this is a tradition that cunts like the Kaiser Chiefs are also following. Mostly because having to endure a horrible voice like that for four minutes is, to me, the antithesis of fun.

Art Brut are dreadful. If it wasn't for for Devandra Bandheart's tuneless mewling, they'd be the worst act we've give album of the year to on Stylus this week. Seriously, if Art Brut pass for fun for you, I'd suggest downloading some "actual" fun music ASAP. Franco Godi, Royal Gigolos, J-Zone, whatever.

"If Art Brut pass for fun for you, I'd suggest downloading some "actual" fun music ASAP." Le sigh. At least when indie snobs criticize fans of other music, they have the decency to call them MTV- and or drug-addled tools, rather than accuse them of sucking at having fun.

Can you say double standard? I think you can....
Posted 09/26/2005 - 06:25:07 PM by DomPassantino:
Dom's list of things that are "fun": 1) Burger Time 2) The conversation circa the eleventh White Russian of the evening 3) zings over MSN 4) putting brick acid on the side of pavements to cause skateboarders to fall over and damage themselves 5) teh sexx0r. Things that aren't fun: 1) Shit indie.

Count one more vote for Art Brut. Definately not the best thing they've done, but anyone with a sense of humor ought to have a good grin or two with their music.

I quite like Art Brut, but really, take Dom's advice - download Royal Gigolos' amazing mix of Laura Branigan's "Self Control" or you're simply not qualified to discuss fun at all.

I personally don't understand how anyone could enjoy both Art Brut and the Kaiser Chiefs (probably because I hate the latter), but I know there are those who do. I think Carsmile has the right idea.

I haven't heard anything by Art Brut (I'm not sure it's even out in America), but I like what I've heard ABOUT them. I only like the Kaiser Cheifs when I'm in the mood for something totally mindless and fun. So they're sort of a guilty pleasure or something - except not really because it's more "guilty" than "pleasure".

art brut certainly deserves to be dissed from time to time, but "good weekend" is undeniably fun. if you can't enjoy a song thats genuinely ecstatic, then go listen to... whatever the hell sad people listen to these days. experimental techno?
Posted 09/27/2005 - 04:34:27 AM by AlexMacpherson:
"ecstatic" OH LOL, would that be ecstatic as in the rubbish pills one gets off dodgy monosyllabic Lynx-drenched Essex dealers in the darkest corners of the club which are probably 75% chalk and which have no other effect whatsoever other than giving you a mild stomachache? cos Art Brut sure ain't ecstatic in any other sense of the word.
Posted 09/27/2005 - 08:22:12 AM by whiteboysushi:
Actually I think he meant the kind of ecstatic where you're having so much fun that you don't care about whether or not lines like "I've seen her naked... TWICE!" sound 'cool'.
Posted 09/27/2005 - 05:02:06 PM by DomPassantino:
But Art Brut, like the rest of their haircut indie bredrin, are far too contrived and concerned with projecting an image to have any fun.
Posted 09/27/2005 - 10:56:28 PM by whiteboysushi:
And yet, somehow, in their neverending quest to destroy fun once and for all, Art Brut have powered out a string of singles which no rational personal can listen to without breaking out in a huge smile. OMG PARIAHDOX!
Posted 09/27/2005 - 10:57:29 PM by whiteboysushi:
Er, "rational person", obv. But "pariahdox" was for realz, and quite clever if I do say so myself.

Guys, guys, everyone is missing the point: we all have enough taste to realize that X-Press' single is to be avoided at all costs.

After hearing "Formed A Band" I was always under the impression that Art Brut were a comedy band. Lord help us if they're SERIOUS.
Posted 09/28/2005 - 01:42:55 PM by ghillz:
*But then, at least they're not Kaiser Chiefs or The Others, and for that we may be thankful.
