CLEMMIE! Ya gotta check out Disco Inferno's "It's a Kid's World", which is based around a loop of the "Lust for Life" beat. Trust me. Get downloadin'.

The "Lose My Breath" drumbeat was actually stolen from the Michigan Drumline without their consent. i think the university is actually suing Rodney Jerkins because of it.

I love the Lust for Life album and players, but that's a nicked Supremes beat.

Grand feature, and agreed with all those listed. But no room for Fools Gold - you should be ashamed Stylus staffers!

Please amend to "you should be ashamed DJ Ms. Clem Bastow!"

love, Brad

in terms of floor filling beats, I'd say you left off 'superstition' by stevie wonder. but that's for the floor. I get all giddy when I hear that boom boom-boom chi of 'be my baby' (and by association 'just like honey')

garlad: what supremes song? im really curious. I'd also like to add (even though I hate the band) Nirvana's Scentless Apprentice. Instantly recognizable. Plus, it makes an otherwise forgettable Cobain screamfest worth listening to.

Hopefully Oneida’s “Lavender” will someday enter the music-consciousness of people everywhere, because that drum intro rips apart reality.

idunnowhy: I think garlad's talking about "You Can't Hurry Love"

Two that should have been included: The Clash's "Train In Vain". I mean, holy shit, this beat kicks some major ass! Topper Headon was unquestionably the best punk drummer ever. Just listen to that opening: it sound so disco, and so deft. It is fucking impossible to resist the drums in this song, the high hat just kills. The second one would be The Smiths' "William, It Was Really Nothing": I always loved the drums on this song for some reason. I don't even know why, they just seem so essential to the song.

Where's the Prince? If you want heavy beat with that piercing snare it's got to be Get Off. If you want brilliantly simple but funky with an infectious kick rhythm it's Sign O' The Times. He really should be here.

It's true, there are lots that "should" be in there - but like any Stylus Top Ten, this is just my list. It's not meant to be definitive.

I must say, while i agree with much of this, the most infectious, energetic, and fuckin awesome drum beat i have ever heard is N*E*R*D's "She wants to move"

just list every motown hit and nobody could really argue.
