We are cut from the same cloth, at least about the crying. "Back on the Chain Gang" does it for me too, but it's the line "Those were the happiest days of my life" that makes me howl with happy-pain. (Isn't there a German word for that?)

Fun article (i am also a weeper) but how could Back on the Chain Gang be considered a happy song? "The powers that be That force us to live like we do. Bring me to my knees", "When I see what they’ve done to you ... I’ll die as I stand here today" "the wretched life of a lonely heart". I seem to remember this song being written after two friends/band mates/lovers died.

True, tjackson - but even if the lyrical heart of the song is sad (perhaps a clue to the tearjerking qualities?), would you agree that the *sound* of the song is upbeat? Well, if not upbeat, then at least putting on a brave face.

I can't figure out if Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" is a happy song that makes me sad, or a sad song that makes me happy. Whatever the case, it should be on deck in the list.
