Finally, someone is standing up for this great, lost, agonizingly-close-to-success band. Even better, the person standing up for them is a guy whose taste in music, from what I've seen over time, is pretty much shit. It's something Scott Lucas, master of life's bitter little ironies, could spin his whole next record on. Let's hope he does, and does it soon. All kidding aside, great piece, Ian.

Have you heard "Whatever Happened To PJ Soles" yet? I hear it's better than this one, which makes me want to check it out; but apparantly I'm a bigger fan of "Here Comes The Zoo" than most people who like Local H are.

I have all the Local H albums (and the excellent "No Fun" EP too) and "PJ Soles" ranks somewhere in the middle of their output to me. The songs are generally really good, but they sound a little worn out and the production lacks the massive POW that partly make Local H so riveting (a sad casualty of no more major label big bucks, I guess). However, I would never in a million years try to dissuade anyone from buying an album with a song called "Heavy Metal Bake Sale". You just can't fuck with that.

I'm surprised I didn't post on this when I first read it. I must have meant to and just forgotten. Anyway, I consider Local H a wildly underrated band, and even though this isn't one of my favorites by them, I really enjoyed this piece. I think it made me appreciate the album more, in fact.
